Fronteiras Filmes is an independent film & video production company based in the Bay Area. After working together for several years across multiple non-fiction projects at a San Francisco documentary studio, our creative team was formed with the goal of bringing a fresh look to the new generation of local filmmakers.

We are working class filmmakers living and working in the Bay Area. We met through documentary filmmaking and collaborated on this act of building a film collective.

We believe in cinema as an agent for social change, so most of our projects include impact strategies designed to take direct action with the making and screening of a film project.

João da Rocha

Director, Producer & Cinematographer

Originally from Brazil, João Vieira moved to the U.S. to pursue his B.F.A. in visual media arts at Emerson College. Leaving the comfort of his homeland was the hardest thing he has ever done. Vieira values the personal growth he undertook as an immigrant as necessary to understand himself as an artist and to forge an independent future. He creates self-reflective investigations using experimental analog photography and filmmaking to explore concepts of homes, family and language.
